Software training

Learning qualitative data analysis software such as QSR NUD*IST (N6) and QSR NVivo is an investment, and the amount of time and effort required varies from person to person. A two or three hour session is sufficient, at least in the first instance. 

It's important to make a distinction between knowing "how to drive" the software (make it perform various functions) and knowing how to structure and manage your data to maximize the software's effectiveness. Most people want at least some project consultancy advice that is specifically directed at the needs of their project.

Do you need training?

QSR software comes with online tutorials that guide you through the software's functions. Doing a tutorial is one way to determine for yourself whether further training is required. Free demo software (with tutorials) are available from www.qsrinternational.com. 

After completing a tutorial you may still feel that you would like further training. If so, you might consider the following options. However, don't begrudge the time spent doing the tutorial - most (if not all) people will get more out of training having first encountered the software in a tutorial.

Training solutions

   Individual or project-team training allows you to learn at your own pace, you can expect to gain a higher level of competence in using the software. The sessions can also be tailored to your particular research requirements, covering just those tools needed for the task ahead. 

   Project startup session: a combination of individual training and project consultancy allows you to start working on your project while you learn the software. Get your project up and running and have a clear idea of how to proceed.

   Ongoing assistance and advanced training provide support as your project develops. Do you have specific questions about how you're using the software? Do you want to build on your current knowledge? You direct the session: any area of interest can be covered in depth, exploring a range of techniques for resolving a particular issue.
