BARRINGTON |
Catherine SPRING was born in London, UK in approximately 1833 (by her reported age on WA death cert reg 79/26). This is possibly the same person listed in the 1841 UK census as living in the St. Pancras district with parents George (bargeman) and Catherine Spring both aged 30 years. She is listed as 8yo with two siblings Thomas 10yo and George 3yo. There is a connection with the surname Bates as Catherine uses this as her maiden name on a number of her children's birth certificates. J&M Tyrrell have provided me with a good deal of information about Thomas and Catherine, including photographs of their children with a person referred to as "Uncle Bates", reportedly a George Bates who came to SA and married Euphemia (Phoebe) Thomson, and later moved to Sydney and married Hannah Rebecca Fern in 1903 and died in Sydney 30 April 1924. Catherine came to Australia sometime around 1851/2 and married Thomas TYRRELL on 21 Dec 1852 at St Stephens, Richmond in Melbourne. By the time their first child was born, they had settled in Maldon in central Victoria where they raised their 13 children (at least two died in infancy). By 1892, Catherine and Thomas had moved to Williamstown and from there moved to WA around 1892 (Catherine's death certificate 1926 notes that she lived in WA for 34 years) and established "Kimberly" at Waterloo near Bunbury. Catherine died some 22 years after Thomas 14 Jul 1926 in Bunbury, WA aged 93yo, and was buried 16 Jul 1926 at the Anglican Cemetery, Bunbury. Primary Tree / Family Roberts & Tyrrell
