Edward BARRINGTON son of Charles
BARRINGTON and Eliza Ann HOOKE was born 6 September 1849, Bishop's Hull (just west of Taunton), Somerset, England. He
departed England in April 1869 and arrived in Melbourne, Australia per "Norfolk" in July 1869 listed as 19 years of age. On board were
his brother Charles Barrington 24, Charles' wife Elizabeth Barrington nee
Rowsell 19 and an infant also listed as Elizabeth (see
http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23).
Edward selected land at Godfrey's Creek (?location) and in 1875 moved to a block of land near the Broken Creek, Kialla East until moving again to Caniambo, purchasing a property "Knapleigh" and after 36 years there, retiring to Shepparton (source: Early Families of Shepparton, Barrington pages by Anna Doncon). Edward died 22 October 1921 aged 82. The photo below was taken c1910 of Edward and Sarah and their children:

Charles, Arthur, Sydney This photograph was amongst my grandfather's papers with this (and other) type-written information: click here. In searching for Edward's ancestors, I got in touch with Peter Barrington in England (who had a family tree of Somerset Barringtons) who sent me an extensive tree that his uncle put together of the Barrington family of Stoke St Gregory (just east of Taunton). EWJ Barrington has gone back to John Barrington who married Mary Himborow in Stoke St Gregory in 1627. His note attached to the tree Peter sent me summarises what is known about John Barrington: click here. Peter's tree has a family group that includes a Charles Barrington, wife Eliza Ann and child Edward who I now believe is the Edward Barrington who came to Australia. In searching for proof that this was in fact Edward's family, I discovered that Charles had no less than four wives. A mention should be made here of several connections with the Marke family of Somerset: Edward's sister married John Marke in Somerset in 1874, five years after Edward left England. John Marke's younger brother Theophilus Tripe Marke came to Australia in about 1883 and in 1887 married Emma Tudgey (Sarah Jane Tudgey's sister). Later still, around 1911, John Brake Marke came to Australia and in 1913 married Edward's eldest daughter Eliza Ann Barrington. There are two trees: the first "Family Barrington" deals with Edward's father Charles and lists his children and parents. The second tree "Family Barrington 2" deals with the ancestors of Charles' parents. Primary Tree / Family Barrington / Family Barrington 2
